Sheffield Stroud was a Clayton Cooper High graduate, but was living in Garner with his wife when he entered the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was killed while assisting wounded comrades.
His platoon had celebrated his 21st birthday that morning, the day before his birthday.
