“He took off and I vectored him to the site and with typical Marine skill, he picked up the five wounded Marines. I vectored him to a hospital ship off shore in the Gulf of Taokin. The Marines were in a hospital in less than an hour.
“We never learned how well the wounded Marines recovered. We had done the very best we could possibly do as Marines for other Marines under trying circumstances.“
