“I was married in December and drafted in February in 1969. My whole world changed.
“I was a little kid from the farm who was forced to go. I was so afraid that I would never come back. Everybody I knew who went came back in a box.
“In Vietnam, I saw friends die right in front of my face. I have PTSD to this day, and I do not believe that I have slept a full night since the war. When I lie down and close my eyes, it all comes back. And once I wake up from a nightmare, I cannot go back to sleep.
“Vietnam cost me my first marriage. I have now been divorced three times. I am proud to have served for 22 years, but Vietnam had a big impact on my life.”
