Vietnam Service Ribbon - United States Navy

LT JG Jim Yothers served aboard the USS Valley Forge, a Essex-class air craft carrier, from July 1962 to Sept. 1964. He was an Assistant Combat Information Center. On 2 August 1964, North Vietnamese torpedo boats attacked the destroyer Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin incident. The Valley Forge left Subic Bay in the Philippines the next morning. The carrier later refueled the destroyer Maddox before spending 57 days at sea off the Vietnamese coast in readiness to land her Marines.
