David Hunter, a native of Clemson, S.C., was in Vietnam when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. He saw the message when it came in and carried it to the commanding officer. That day is his most vivid memory.
He was a Team Leader Recon Team in the 82nd Airborne Special Forces when he returned to Vietnam in 1968-69. He later was a Master Scuba diver and light weapons leader. He was an original member of the United States’ Delta Force and had experience with British Special Forces. He had enlisted in 1960 and retired in 1989 as a Command Sergeant Major.
